Installation#
Installing from PyPi#
pip install -U howso-engine
Note: Recipes have additional installation requirements for data, presentation, etc. Instructions for installing those requirements can be found in the README for Howso Engine Recipes.
Howso Dev Containers#
An alternate approach to installing from PyPi is to use one of the Howso Dev Containers. These are ready to use Docker containers that are built to include Howso Engine and all requirements needed to run the Recipes. See Running in a Dev Container for additional information.
Client Configuration#
The Howso Engine determines very sensible defaults automatically making this step optional. However, it may be useful to change certain aspects or behaviors of operation. See: Client Configuration for further information.
Verification#
You can verify your installation is working by running the following command in your python environment terminal:
verify_howso_install
Time Zone Data#
If the verify_howso_install
command fails due to missing time zone data on the operating system you are using,
you can download the requisite data only distribution at iana.org.
Step 1 - Download:
https://data.iana.org/time-zones/releases/tzdata2023c.tar.gz
Step 2 - Unpack Files:
Extract the compressed files into a folder at the following location on your filesystem:
~/.howso/tzdata
Step 3 - Supplemental File (Microsoft Windows Only):
Place this supplemental windowsZones.xml
alongside the previously downloaded and extracted time zone data files.

ls ~/.howso/tzdata
